The ability to understand, use and manage one's own emotions in positive ways to communicate efficiently, relieve stress, overcome pressure, empathize with others, face challenges, defuse conflicts, is termed as emotional intelligence or emotional quotient (EQ). A good example is when you can accept the criticism & take responsibility for your actions, you move on by learning from your mistakes. You understand when to say 'Yes' & 'No'.
By being self aware, regulating your actions, finding motivation, having empathy, resolving conflicts through communication, etc. you build your emotional intelligence. This can be a great asset to you in life. When you are in school, office, growing in your career, you come across people and situations where you have to handle them in a way which resolves the problems in a smart & effective way. With failures, you learn and grow each time.
If you observe some of the top influencers, global thought leaders, motivational speakers, etc., they all exude a higher level of emotional intelligence. This is also a very necessary quality if you aspire to become an entrepreneur or take up a leadership role in an organization. When you learn and implement some of these things from an early age, you tend to have a greater control over your success and the path you choose in future!
